This week I missed the class, so this blog post will be barren land for productive discourse about the topics discussed in class. I will still be discussing Avicenna.
Avicenna’s metaphysical investigation is influenced by his religion, he has to include the possibility of a superhuman existence in his philosophy. I think I assumed that would necessarily make Avicenna’s philosophy wrong but I shouldn’t conclude that prematurely. Of course religion is one of the most subjective constructs ever conceived, it varies from religion to religion, from creed to creed and from believer to believer. Including religion always manipulates reason and good will. Men of god are human too and if religious men have trouble abiding by their own rules and standards their authority should be questioned. I am of course referring to the horrible abuse scandals of the Catholics but also the other Christian creeds. Vilifying homosexuality meanwhile abusing kids. Church, as the biggest contributing factor of oppression brings no good. Religion doesn’t mix with philosophy because they are very distinct models of thinking.
Dogmatism is the opposite of philosophy and religion is pure dogmatism.
